11/3/24 - Ocean View Half Marathon
Mantra going into this race: Be like a child, respond easy to changes, let people be who they are.
I was Patient. Cooler temps were helpful. I had a well thought out pacing plan and stuck to it. Relax in the run and try to enjoy it. Stay focused. TRUST in your training. Fuel before and during. Don't be affraid of the carb! I was at +9 TSB FITNESS FORM IN TP. I was 3 days into the new moon power phase.
Race morning - took a quick shower to warm up. Coffee. Mary gave me half of her peanut butter sandwich, that was key. Fueling for this race went as: Water, half peanut butter sandwich and coffee, banana. Also Filled water bottle with LMNT drank most of that before race. Had to pee 2 times before the start.
Temps started high 30s and were into mid 40s at finish. I only wore 3/4 pants and one long sleeve shirt, gloves. Saucony Endorphin Speed Pro. They were great.
Did not wait in portojohn line. Ran around the school to the woods. Pee'd there.
The course was really pretty along the coast.
Fuel during the race- Decided to NOT take water with me. I was well hydrated with water and LMNT. Took water and gatorade at 4, 6, and 8 miles. Took in base salts just to be sure somewhere after 3 miles. At 35-40 min I took a raw New Zealand honey, 20 minutes later took another, too small. I asummed they were be about 100 calories but found them to be only 17 calories each with 4 carbs each!!!! After that I felt I could eat more and wanted to be fueled well for the last 6 miles so I took in a vanilla gu with NO CAFFEINE probably at 1 hour. Good decision. I took the 3rd honey at some point. I wanted to pick up the pace in the last 3 miles. I had energy! In the last mile I wanted to do a 7:30 so I ate half Roctain GU with CAFFIENE. I had energy. My last mile was 7:45 and the last .2 was 7:21.
Overall I had a plan and stuck to it. I didn't let anyone influence how I ran. I wanted to have enough mojo to run the 2nd half successfully by going out easy and fueling for the 2nd half. Mission accomplished! So greatfull and happy with my race. God allowed me to do this. He was with me every step of the way and guided me. Love.
