Blooming!

Spring is finally on the way. How absolutely glorious after the winter we have had here in Massachusetts. Things are surly blooming. Question is, are all those flowers early or late bloomers? One one hand you could argue that I was an early bloomer.  To this I mean I had boobs in the 6th grade. Oh joyous day.  Yes, that was horrible.  You don't want boobs in the 6th grade. You don't want to have anything. The boys can't handle it.  As far as racing goes I was a late bloomer.  I may have started running early - in the 6th grade.  Now there's an epiphany.  Hmm.. I wonder if the two are connected (early boobs and running). I doubt it. In fact I suspect just the opposite. I have heard that running can stunt growth. Bummer! No competitive racing took place until 2000? Maybe? I would say I started doing track workouts in the year 2000.  That does not necessarily mean I got faster that year although I most likely did. ...

Life (a bit corny but that's OK)

What if you suddenly found that - Your house was now your mansion? Or Your races were exactly what you had trained them to be? Or Your health and your loved one's health was not a problem? Or You could purchase whatever you wanted at anytime? Or Your important relationships with your family and friends were in tact and strong? Or Your business was thriving despite a weak economy? What would you do if you suddenly had many, many, options or opportunities to change your life or your career? Would you feel guilty because you had more than others? Would you volunteer your time or money to take some of that guilt away? This is what I thought about today. I prayed for all the people affected by the earthquake and tsunami and then I focused on my little life in Massachusetts. I know what I would do.  I would be grateful for every day, every kiss, every friend, every...

Touch and Go

I was flying high last week only to fall on my face this week. Looking back a few months I can honestly say that training has been going EXCELLENTLY since the first week in December. I kept it nice and easy in all of my workouts while building up time. Trying to build endurance and speed skills. Not speed, just speed skills. I feel that this step in my training was crucial and I was rewarded by feeling really strong in my proceeding workouts. As time went on I built up my hours to a maximum of 12 weekly for now. In the past year I would suddenly find myself depleted of energy and motivation after a hard week or two of training. My new plan is, after each week with more than 8 hours hours I pull back to only 5-6 hours. This is my way of staying ON TOP of my rest needs rather than letting my rest requirements get away from me. Women in their forties can identify. This new plan has worked like a charm so far. I have been able to complete 95% of my planned workouts and I'm feeling so...
