Coldest Day Thus Far

We can't complain about one cold day because winter has been rather splendid.  HOWEVER I will mention the fact that today's long run of 10 miles was done in 6 degree weather and I am rather proud of myself for giitin her done.  Great run with 45 min at a relaxed 8:35 pace then 30 min at 8:07 pace. All went off without a hitch with pal Mel Bair.

New Years Day 5k

This is going to be quick because I am busy at work. I am so happy that I was able to do 7:01s with very little speed work. This gives me  high hopes of getting a lot faster for this year. This race was a great starting point. Very satisfied. If they had done age groups I would have been first 40 and up.  Yeehaa!!

Important thoughts

On Aruba - I went weighing 123.5, I came back at 124.  I ate small breakfasts, small lunches and a few small dinners. The rest was lots of good dinners. I only drank 1 or 2 alcoholic drinks at dinner except for 2 nights where I didn't drink at all. I also shared a shot with Joan, a cosmo with Mel. It was fun!  I only worked out 5 days per week for 45 minutes.  Nothing major. Felt good.  I didn't eat too much junk during the day either but I did dabble. Christmas is this  Saturday and Sunday.  I am  having the Harrington crew over for Chines food this Saturday night. The Caron clan is coming for dinner on Sunday.  I am over flowing with Christmas spirit but I do regret not putting up the Christmas tree. We thought we would need the space but that won't be the case next years. My workouts are going well.  My strength workouts are amazing. They feel much easier and last for 50 minutes. I love what they are doing to my core. I'm noticing smal...

The Early Season

Training season has just begun. I feel great within my workouts. They feel very doable and I can push myself but not to  hard. Just came back from Aruba where I had lots and lots of naps.  I ate wonderful food, shopped till I dropped, and exercised about :45-1:00 5 times per week.  It was so awesome!  I'm currently reading the Shack.  It's really a fiction but someone actually claims the story to be true. It's up to you to believe it or not. Today I ran 45 min. with Maureen and Maria then swam for 45 minutes.  I feel as though all of my ducks are in a row and I will just cruise through this training.  I might eat those words one day but that IS how I feel now.  I'm sure it's naive.

Ayurvedic Cleanse

Today is the last day of my 4 day pre-cleanse.  This pre-cleanse was the most I have ever fasted. It was very hard. The meeting itself was even hard. I was forced to sit on my pillow for 3 hours on the floor with no back support. I was kinda pissed off. So, the first day came and I did as I was instructed. Ate Kitchari and Ghee. Yuck!  Kathy tried really hard at this point to come with me on this journey but she caved.  I got a severe headache that first day as well but I lived with it and continued on. Day two came and the headache was gone thanks to the herb Triphala. Although my headache was finally gone I now had a bigger problem - throbbing pain throughout the backs of my legs. This throbbing was due to the toxins being purged through my body.  OUCH!  The throbbing continued for 3 days. I succumbed to advil and tylenol. Thank goodness I had otherwise I would not have slept.  Consequently I slept very well. I also kept up the oil routine of l...

FIRST DAY OF IRONMAN TRAINING

After a week of transitioning from the marathon to tri-training, October 8TH - Saturday is designated as the first day of ironman training. Mel and I took to the roads on our tri-bikes.  This day was perfect. It was 48 degrees. Just warm enough to wear my wind jacket and bike pants.  We only averaged 14.5 mph and biked 22 miles. It took me 1 hour and 25 minutes.  This was also the first time I got to use my brand new SRM out on the roads.  That was cool to see my power.   I need to take more pictures. At the end of the ride I met Mel at Blue Moon then she dropped me at my house in her new Nissan.
