Wrentham Duathlon!

Last Sunday was the Wrentham Duathlon. A short little race. Lots of fun. Felt really good to get racing again.  I was like a pent up rodeo bull. As soon as the gun went off I was like, get out of my way.  It was an awesome feeling. I don't usually feel that confident at a race.

The race it's self is pretty small. I think 250 participants.  3 mile run, 11 mile bike, 2 mile run.  I did this race in 2009 so I had at least that to compare my new results with. I was a whole minute slower. But lest you think I've been slacking let me assure you that I haven't.  Actually they changed the last 2 mile run course.  I think.  Anyways - the real fun part was this:

Senator Scott Brown was there and he was the announcer.  I figured I go up and introduce myself, which I did.

He was smiling and was gracious.  He's is one cute guy.  When the gun went off I was able to pass many runners (including the senator). Yes. I did. I wasn't lightening fast like I usually am :).  I averaged just under 7s. My T times were good. Under a minute for each. Of course it's easy to do that in this kind of race.  On the bike I got passed but only by a couple of people. A huge improvement in my mind. I distinctly remember getting passed by A WOMAN and two men including senator Scott Brown.

So here I am on the 2 mile run and I see the gal who passed me on the bike.  I'm just going to run her down so I do.  Then I see the senator and he keeps looking back to see who is coming.  I thought that was strange but regardless I hunted him down as well.  As I was passsssing  and waving (just kidding) he said "good job" and to be honest I was working so hard I had to say "what? "..  He repeated his polite words and I said thanks.  My bike average was 18.5 I think (the measurements are off).  My last 2 miles were just under 7s as well. I was 4th woman overall and 2nd my age group.

I was mostly thrilled because I knew my focus was present and I was ready to kill. Regardless of my time (which was good) it matters more that my brain is in the game right now. I'm ready to play!

You rocked! I LOVE the timing of this race - it's perfect to force you to get outside in the early Spring, and then gets your mind totally in the game and pumped for the season. I hope I get to race with you again soon!

Great job! I did this one last year, and I think the bike is no picnic. Nice work chicking the senator, obviously.
