New Love, Old Love

On Saturday I took the plunge. I spent at least a 1/2 hour getting ready for my first bike ride outside this year. I must admit I was a little nervous. After months of training indoors on the trainer, I was not sure about how things would go outside. After all it's much safer inside and there are no elements to deal with. No cars, no worrying about getting off the bike in time, no hills unless you put them in there, blah blah blah.. Well, after the first 200 meters I realized I am in love with biking. I can't believe I waited so long. It was a beautiful day. I was well prepared and I had a great bike. I biked 26 miles by myself. Got lost only once. Fell to the ground only once. It was fabulous and I can't wait to get out there again. Did I say I love my bike?

Thank god for the women who shoot for hirer goals than I do. Today I went to the Women's Olympic Marathon trials. They are so inspirational to me. I used to wonder why people would be so impressed with me when I would say that I run marathons. I figured anyone can do it. I was reminded today of why that is. It's because it's so DAMNED HARD to run a marathon. These women make it look SO easy at a 5:40 pace that I just don't understand how they do it. They have to have lungs the size of watermelons. It was a joy to watch the race unfold like a great ending to a book. It made me fall back in love with the marathon again and I look forward to training for another one.

Congrats on the ride! Yahoo! The first time I went out my hands ached for an hour after the ride because I had gripped the handlebars so tightly! I'm glad you love it. It's cool to move so fast and cover so much ground.

Loved watching the trials too-though i watched them from the computer! How about that Magdelena!! (and isn't that Maria's real name, btw?) They were so inspirational. When Joanie crossed I just got teary. What a woman.

That Total Immersion stuff will definitely pay back in the end. Look for one of their workshops--they sometimes come to the area. It's expensive, but you get a lot of bang for your buck.

HOw exciting that you loved the bike immediately!!! It has taken Mary and I quite a while. Right Mary? I'm not sure I'm in "love" with it yet but it's better. You're goign to do so well!! Enjoy this new training adventure.
